Fall 2013 OCI Information

The Fall 2013 OCI General Information Memo and the Summary List of Employers for this year's Fall OCI program are now available under the “Resources” tab in Symplicity.  Next to “Type” select “OCI Materials” from the drop down box and then select the appropriate file.  Please note that the summary list will continue to change over the summer as additional employers register to participate.  We will update it as needed.

Bidding for the August Session is now open.  To view the employers participating in the August Session, first click on the “OCI” tab in Symplicity.  Next to “Session”, select “Fall 2013: August” from the drop down box.  You will only be able to see the employers that are seeking to hire individuals from your class year.

Although the bidding for the August session is open, you DO NOT need to upload your materials immediately.  The session deadline is not until 12:00 PM on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, and there is no advantage to applying earlier rather than later ‑ employers will not have access to the application materials until AFTER the deadline closes.  Having said that, you should not wait until the last minute to apply and the deadline will not be extended for any reason, including if the server is slow due to large volume close to the deadline.

1) Information about this summer's Mock Interview Program, the OCI Prep Session and a panel presentation entitled: "OCI & Beyond: Interviews and Applications through a Recruiter’s Perspective" is contained in the information packet.

2) In addition to the sample application materials provided in the information packet, remember that we also have samples and guidelines provided in the OCS Handbook found under the Resources tab in Symplicity.

3) We are happy to review resumes and cover letters and encourage you to send them to us before using them to apply.  In order to ensure that all materials can be reviewed before the deadline, please email them to us NO LATER than July 1, 2013.  Also, please remember that this is a high‑volume time for us, so please be patient as we review materials ‑ we will get through all of them, but it will take longer than usual.

4) Please remember that OCI is only one part of the job‑search process.   If you are considering other larger firms in NY/NJ or markets outside of the NY/NJ, please remember that you should apply directly to those firms on the same time‑frame.  Keep in mind, though, that the economic downturn has greatly constricted the larger firm market.  Don’t be discouraged . . . hiring by smaller firms and most public interest organizations and government agencies usually takes place later in the Fall and into the Spring.  Accordingly, please remember that while OCI can be a valuable process, there will still be opportunities to look for your summer or post-graduate position throughout the academic year and our office will be working with you to identify and pursue these opportunities.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

We look forward to assisting you through this process!
